A $70,000 grant from the Foundation to High Plains Public Radio, will provide needed support for regional programming in Northwest Kansas.
High Plains Public Radio broadcasts a mix of news, music and cultural programming across Northwest Kansas, including 17 counties in the Hansen Foundation service area. In addition to national and purchased programming, High Plains also produces a variety of regional features and news content. Well-known programs include People of the Plains, Book Bytes Agland, High Plains Outdoors, Prairie Tayles and Today in High Plains History.
The station produces 35 hourly regional newscasts in addition to the programs and publishes three or four regional stories each week on its website.
The station is also engaging listeners across the plains with through a Radio Readers book club that encourages listeners to read a themed book, and discuss it online and on the air.
The grant will help offset the translator and transmitter costs of the station’s towers in the Hansen service area as well as to help with production costs for the regional programming.
