A $90,000 grant to Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, Inc. (DSNWK) will be used to provide needed repairs to its facilities in Atwood, Hays and Norton.
DSNWK provides services in a safe, accessible and healthy environment for approximately 500 individuals with mild to severe developmental disabilities in the 18 northwestern most counties in Kansas.
The grant will replace the roof at the Prairie Developmental Center in Atwood. The Prairie Center serves clients from Atwood and Colby. The roof has been repaired numerous times but has not been replaced since the purchase of the building in 1986. It is no longer repairable.
In Norton, the grant will construct a handicapped accessible hygiene room at the Frontier Developmental Center. The new space will include an accessible shower, restroom and laundry space that includes a special flushing sink for the aging clients that reside there and the staff who care for them. DSNWK has provided services in Norton since 1988 when the Norton State Hospital closed. DSNWK operates Frontier Developmental Center and two group homes in Norton.
DSNWK’s main administrative office is located in Hays. The Hansen Foundation grant will help with the replacement of three aging rooftop air-conditioning units. The old units were installed in 1984. Replacing the units will assist the organization in reducing energy costs and repair bills.
The Dane G. Hansen Foundation supports the work of DSNWK and a positive quality of life for all citizens of Northwest Kansas.
