A $289,000 grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, Logan, KS will match locally donated funds to complete a total remodel of 40 student housing units at Colby Community College.
The college recognized a need to update student-housing facilities, which had never been renovated since they were constructed almost 50 years ago. The college raised nearly $300,000 for the project from local donors to renovate the south end of the North South Living Center. The grant from the Hansen Foundation will cover the cost of the renovation of the north end. The two facilities are mirror images.
According to Colby College president Seth Carter, the generous grant from the Hansen Foundation “allows us to improve a facility that truly impacts the quality of life for our students.”
The Dane G. Hansen Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for residents in northwest Kansas. The trustees recognized that Colby Community College primarily serves students from northwest Kansas and this grant will make for a better college experience for these students who choose to attend school closer to home. In addition, the updated housing will assist the college in recruiting new students.
The college will cover the cost of roof repair, furniture and wireless access to complete the project.
