A grant to purchase shop equipment:
Grant funds were used to purchase an engraver for the high school shop cases. Now the students are using their skills with the engraver inside and outside the classroom to help others with projects that previously were outsourced to other communities. That money is now being kept in the community.
The students are also learning about business plans and some real-world connections that will help them after high school. More kids interested in shop class and there is an effort to start an after-school club in which the members can use the engraver to do more projects.
The community benefits in that students are doing projects for the community members and those funds are being put back into the school instead of leaving the area. In addition to projects for school promotion items, projects have included printing signs for the County 4H council, ear tags for local farmers and possibly to engrave the plaques for the Northwest district of the Future Farmers of America chapter.
