- Students graduating from high schools in the following 26 counties in Northwest Kansas may be eligible for Dane G. Hansen Scholarships: Cheyenne, Cloud, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Saline, Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego and Wallace.
- Full-time high school seniors who will graduate in the current academic year from an accredited high school, registered independent, private or home school in the 26 county area of Northwest Kansas listed above may be eligible for the Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, Hansen Scholar, Hansen Student and Hansen Career and Technical Education Scholarships.
- Students who are going to attend an out-of-state school should not apply.
- Students interested in the Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, Hansen Scholar or Hansen Student Scholarships must register with their high school counselor or principal before taking the qualifying test. Register eligible students here.
- The Career and Technical Education Scholarship is available only for students pursuing a 1 or 2 year degree and who will attend one of the following Northwest Kansas schools: Northwest Kansas Technical College (Beloit & Hays), Colby Community College, Northwest Kansas Tech (Goodland), Academy of Hair Design (Hays & Salina), Cloud County Community College, Salina Area Technical College, Fort Hays State University (2-year program) or Kansas State Polytechnic (2-year program).
- Students interested in a Career and Technical Education Scholarship must submit to the Hansen Foundation a completed Career and Technical Education Application Form and three letters of reference by October 23, 2020. A student interested in the Career and Technical Education Scholarship does not need to take the academic test.
*Due to COVID-19, the following changes will be implemented to follow health and safety recommendations for the upcoming scholarship testing:
- Testing sessions have been divided, so kids will be spaced out to follow social distancing guidelines. *Please note that you may not be testing at the same location or at the same time that your school has tested at in the past.
- Masks will be required upon arrival and during the test.
- Temperatures will be taken at the door. Please arrive early!
- Hand sanitizer will be available at locations.
- Locations will be cleaned between morning and afternoon sessions.
- To be eligible to take the Hansen Qualifying Scholarship test, a student must have taken the ACT test and have a composite score of 21 or higher and have at least a 3.50 GPA (unweighted).
- Student should be an active participant in extracurricular school and community activities, displaying good citizenship, leadership and moral integrity.
- The High School Principal or Counselor will be responsible for submitting a list of students who plan to take the qualifying test to the Hansen Foundation Office, P.O. Box 187, Logan, Kansas 67646, prior to September 11, 2020.
- On the day of the testing, it will be the student’s responsibility to submit the following:
- Official Copy of transcript with GPA and Rank in class circled.
- Current ACT score. NOTE: any updated ACT score must be postmarked no later than November 20, 2020, and should be sent to the Hansen Foundation, Box 187, Logan, Kansas 67646.
- Resume listing:
- High school classes in which he/she is currently enrolled.
- College classes for which credit has already been earned, as well as classes which will be completed by June 4, 2021.
- Work experience, extracurricular and community activities.
- Please arrive 25 minutes early to your appropriate testing site.
- Please bring a No. 2 pencil and a pen.
- No calculators, dictionaries, thesauruses, notes, books, backpacks, cell phones or iWatches are allowed in the testing area.
