LUCAS – A 25-year retrospective exhibit features the work of the 121 self-taught artists from Kansas and 49 out-of-state grassroots artists whose efforts have been documented at the Lucas Grassroots Art Center. The Retrospective Outsider Art project will be on display at the center through Oct. 31. Then it will become a traveling display.
A catalog called Flying Free was also produced to give information about each artist. No two artists think or create in the same manner, and the recycled materials they use range from limestone to grocery sacks to airplane wing fabric to chewing gum.
Grant funding helped provide support for marketing the exhibit, as well as developing a loft storage space for pieces in the center’s permanent collection.
