Mankato museum undergoes mammoth improvements

MANKATO – Renovations and improved exhibits featuring mammoth fossils found in Jewell County are making the Jewell County Historical Society Museum more attractive to visitors.

Grant funding covered the cost of a heating and air conditioning system installed to allow the museum to be open throughout the year. In addition, the grant covered the costs of floors being refinished, walls painted and new lighted display cabinets being added to hold a tusk and other fossils. A chainsaw mammoth statue named Manny has become the museum’s mascot and is prominently featured.
