SALINA – More than 100 hand-painted stage backdrops and historic plaster in the Salina Innovation Foundation building are protected from damage by a new roof.
Grant funding helped pay to replace the roof in March, protecting the historic downtown landmark from further water damage. Water had been seeping in all the way to the first-floor marble lobby of the former Masonic Temple, but since the new roof was installed the building has remained dry.
As a result of the roof replacement, 15 weddings were held at The Temple during 2020, utilizing the breathtaking theatre and backdrops. Private events help provide operating capital for the care and maintenance of the 160,000-squre-foot building, which is on the National Historic Register.
