QUINTER – Eighth graders couldn’t go on the traditional field trip to the state Capitol during the COVID-19 pandemic, so they took a trip to Hutchinson to see the Strataca Underground Salt Mine and Museum.
None of the students had ever been to the mine 640 feet underground. They were impressed by the elevator ride down in total darkness, and they enjoyed learning about the rock layers and the mining process. They also saw the movie costumes and other items preserved in the mine, where they are protected from humidity.
Grant funding helped cover the expense of the trip.
