Smoky Hills PBS garners awards

BUNKER HILL – For the fifth consecutive year, Smoky Hills PBS has been named Station of the Year in the non-metro category by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.

The station, which receives grant funding, overcame a variety of obstacles in 2020 to produce about 60 hours of original programming, including educational content for school-aged children who were taking classes online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to delays and cancellations caused by the pandemic, station employees overcame transmitter failures, the master control facility being flooded when a pipe burst and the loss of several retiring staff members. The station continues to provide quality educational programming to the people of Northwest and north central Kansas.
