The Dane G. Hansen Foundation is happy to announce our continued partnership with the Creede Repertory Theatre to bring an original children’s theatre production to elementary schools in Northwest Kansas this fall. The performances are underwritten by the Hansen Foundation and offered at no cost to the participating schools.
ABOUT THE SHOW
THE CITY DOG AND THE PRAIRIE DOG
Book and Lyrics by Diana Grisanti | Music by Emiliano Messiez
Directed by Matt Zambrano
Paloma is a prairie dog pup in a prairie dog town. She’s not a huge fan of prairie living, though—the boring cuisine, the terrifying predators, the annoying owls. So, when her cousin from the city comes to visit, Paloma jumps at the chance to leave the open plain behind. Will Paloma adjust to life in a metropolis of 22 million people (and who knows how many rodents)? Will she survive without her dog town behind her? Will they survive without her? Featuring lots of singing, dancing, and audience participation, The City Dog and the Prairie Dog is a story about exploring the world, learning new things, and maybe, just maybe, coming home again.

ABOUT CREEDE REPERTORY THEATRE’S YOUNG AUDIENCE OUTREACH TOUR
Celebrating 35 years of bringing excellent bilingual musical theatre to schools across the Southwest, Creede Repertory Theatre’s Young Audience Outreach Tour (YAOT) is one of the largest providers of educational theatre to the rural Southwest, serving over 24,000 children, and is now available to schools in Northwest Kansas!
YAOT’s mission is to bring high quality musical theatre to young audiences in rural and underserved communities by annually producing an original children’s show to tour in elementary schools.

LITERACY MATTERS
Before the show arrives at the school, teachers will have access to a study guide to help introduce students to the themes explored in the production. After the performance, each child receives an original book, specific to the production, that reinforces the play’s themes, connects with their school curriculum and keeps the story alive. This important aspect of the tour ties directly to the Hansen Foundation’s efforts to promote reading in NW Kansas.
PERFORMANCE FEE
This program is fully funded by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation! There is NO COST for the school.
WHY THE HANSEN FOUNDATION IS OFFERING THIS
The Foundation has been working with communities in Northwest Kansas to identify programs, projects and initiatives that provide opportunities and improve the quality of life. The process, Strategic Doing, is happening in each of the 26 counties we serve. Through Strategic Doing, the Hansen Foundation has identified issues that have been self-identified in multiple counties. One such issue is a desire for increased arts and cultural opportunities.
In 2018, the Hansen Foundation partnered with Creede Rep to bring the Young Audience tour to every elementary school that chose to participate in our 26 county area. The tour was immensely successful, reaching more than 18,000 children in 61 schools in rural Northwest Kansas, many of whom would likely never be exposed to professional theater without the endeavors of CRT’s Young Audience Outreach Tour and The Dane G. Hansen Foundation.
We look forward to another successful year!
