OSBORNE – Children in kindergarten through sixth grade received their own copy of the book Wishtree by Katherine Applegate shortly before spring break 2020 began. At the time, school officials were unaware that students would not return to school after break because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The school district library and the Osborne Public Library collaborated to get the book out to as many community members as wanted to participate in the community reading project. The story of love, acceptance, and hope was a good one to read during a challenging time.
Book discussions were held online, and a tree outside the public library was designated the wishtree, and various community members wrote their wishes on pieces of paper and tied them to the tree.
