As if the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t enough of a challenge for staging a series of public performances, severe weather caused events to be rescheduled as well during the 2020-21 season of Western Plains Arts Association concerts.
COVID protocols meant venues had to be changed for four public performances and one school presentation. In addition, artists cancelled two shows because they decided it wasn’t safe for them to tour during the pandemic. Another show was postponed until next year because of the extreme cold in February. The Queen City Jazz Band was booked as a replacement act, but a snowstorm forced their mid-March performance to be delayed until May.
A highlight of the season was an April concert of The Dutton Family from Branson. Despite the uncertainties and challenges of adapting during the year, the season was enriching and uplifting to the people of Northwest Kansas.
