4-H camps provide diverse experiences

Nearly 40 4-H day camps for 5- to 11-year-olds were held in 20 counties throughout the area during the summer and winter of 2019, featuring everything from unmanned aerial systems to fishing, healthy snacks and photography.

In addition to the individual county camps, there were eight multi-county events. Camps were independently planned and presented in each county. In 2019, 220 teen 4-H leaders were involved in the camps, as well as 153 adult volunteers.

Nearly 400 youths were introduced to UAS safety, regulations and career opportunities in presentations at 15 county fairs, and more than 450 kids attended 29 drone-focused day camps. Overall, more than 1,250 additional youths participated in the day camp program supported by grant funds.
