Area school staff members received information about Rachel’s Challenge from Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed in the Columbine High School shooting in April 1999.
Scott spoke on Oct. 14 for 65 school, law enforcement and mental health professionals who attended the event, sponsored by the Smoky Hill Education Service Center. In addition, Scott spoke the following night as the keynote speaker at the Child Advocacy and Parenting Services fundraiser. Scott’s appearance in Salina was partially underwritten by grant funds.
The goal was to get schools to implement Rachel’s Challenge to promote inclusion and decrease bullying.
