OAKLEY – The oldest building in downtown Oakley has been restored and improved to house the office of the Logan County Community Foundation, a community kitchen that provides a revolving lunchtime selection, and a vacation rental upstairs.
Project 1886 was begun to restore the exterior of the building, which was losing bricks on the sidewalk, and build out the interior to create office space. Mike Woofter, owner of Woofter Construction in Colby, was inspired to complete the upstairs loft apartments in the building into an Airbnb called 1886 Loft.
The loft has been well used, with people from more than 14 different states having stayed there to date.
Hansen Foundation grant funds were utilized to finish a deck and stairway to a second upstairs exit, as well as completing a back patio area, fence and concrete. Now the building provides a gathering place around the patio fire pit for local people and visitors alike.
