More women are getting mammography screenings for early detection of breast cancer following the purchase of a new mammography machine for Phillips County Hospital.
The machine replaces a mobile service that had previously been available and allows area women to get mammographies without driving more than an hour for the 20-minute procedure.
Community fundraisers, as well as grant funds, made purchase of the equipment possible. The local high school volleyball team raised money for every “kill” scored during their games. Small pink volleyballs and footballs were thrown to the crowds at games to help raise awareness.
