National Orphan Train Complex adds train car

CONCORDIA – Visitors to the National Orphan Train Complex in Concordia can now take a seat and “ride” an orphan train.

The completed Train Car Station, which opened in May, features the preserved Legend train car and associated exhibits. The train car was owned by Dr. C.C. Jones, local placing agent for the Children’s Aid Society of New York, and his orphan train rider daughter Mabel Jones.

The interior of the building, which was finished partially with grant funds, resembles a rail yard roundhouse, with ship lap siding and a brick floor.
