New books enhance learning environment

COLBY – At Citizens’ Clubhouse, staff select books that tie in with lesson plans, significantly enhancing the learning environment for the children in their care.

Having a well-stocked library empowers teachers to create engaging lesson plans. They benefit from increased exposure to books, expanding their vocabulary and enriching their experiences.

The center’s staff aim to read aloud three books daily, starting with the youngest infants and continuing through the school-age program. Twenty minutes of independent reading is also encouraged each day. Even infants enjoy exploring cloth books during their free play!

During the September State Survey, the surveyor was complimentary of the center’s book library, its’ organization and lesson plans. She was particularly impressed with how books are intentionally incorporated into the curriculum to reinforce key concepts.

A Hansen Foundation grant provided funds for new book purchases during the year.
