QUINTER — Quinter eighth graders learned about Kansas history from a singing tour guide when they visited the state capitol building in Topeka on May 1.
The students had been studying John Brown and especially enjoyed seeing the John Steuart Curry mural of him. The whole class, led by the singing tour guide, sang “Home on the Range” in front of the huge Kansas mural.
Students also enjoyed seeing the House in session, visiting the Senate chamber and sitting in the chairs of the old Supreme Court room. Almost all of the students walked the 296 steps to the top of the dome.
The class trip was funded by a grant and by concession stand proceeds.
