Silent films earn fans among a new generation

CONCORDIA – Students from Concordia, Jamestown, Glasco, Miltonvale and surrounding communities got to hear a 13-piece orchestra accompany classic silent films, and a new generation was exposed to the genius of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra played at the Brown Grand Palace Theatre in an Oct. 12 performance that was also open to the public. The program was underwritten by grant funds.

The students were particularly intrigued that Keaton, who starred in some of the first motion pictures, was from Kansas.
