HAYS – A new website designed to connect people interested in volunteering with volunteer opportunities has been established by the United Way of Ellis County.
The website, nwksvolunteers.org, was launched in the spring of 2019 and offered to area agencies as a place to post volunteer opportunities. The Leadership Hays class of 2019 helped promote the website by distributing promotional materials and signing up more than 100 people as volunteers at a booth set up during a downtown event. A member of the class also designed a logo for the site.
Grant funding purchased software and paid for the domain name.
The site has had success connecting volunteers to work needing done. A local organization posted on the website that help was needed to get annual campaign brochures ready for distribution. Within 10 minutes, a Fort Hays State University student responded. The student prepared all 5,000 brochures for mailing, which helped him meet a class requirement for volunteer hours.
