GOODLAND – A historic downtown building has a new efficient heat and air system, a critical step in the process of restoring the 1931 United Telephone building to house the Parker Research Center, where Sherman County’s historical documents will be preserved.
Part of the project was removal of an old heating system weighing more than a ton from the building’s basement.
The Sherman County Historical Society will store delicate old documents and photographs in the research center, including newspapers dating back to the late 1800s that would deteriorate without controlled humidity and temperatures. They will be made available to the public for historical and genealogical research purposes.
The research center is named for Marion and Betty Parker.
